June Music and fun 2017

It’s summertime 2017 and Rod and I are in full swing of singing at Hawaiian luaus and libraries. Joining us is Cindy Reyes and my daughter Michelle.

Recording four new songs this year. “Nothings Better Than You”, a love song that Rod composed for his sister Sally’s wedding,  “Joshua”, and “I Will Follow” for the Martindale Animals Used by God series and a very special lullaby.

Also adding three new books of the Animals Used by God series: “Digger, the Dog Used by God”, “Mia, the Mouse Used by God”, and “The Christmas Animals Used by God.” I attended the 72nd Arkansas Writers Conference in Little Rock June 3. I will be a speaker next year and talk about my illustrations, audio-books and music. I have now illustrated for five other Arkansas children’s authors: Everett O. Martindale, Dale Black, Donna Watkins, Linda Pennington Black, and Rod Ragsdale, and one author from out of state, Donna Walker.

click on link above to find my stories and musical audio-books. Kids enjoy listening in the car. Some are in both Spanish and English. In fact three of my stories “Lilly, the Lamb Used by God” “Wanda, the Whale Used by God ” and “Pablo, the Donkey Used by God” and are on their way with missionaries to be shared with children of three different Spanish speaking countries. I love that!

I teach music throughout the year at St. Mark’s and now teaching summer school till noon. In the afternoons Rod and I head out to sing for senior citizen communities.

Thanks for reading. Till July when I can share some fun pictures of Rod as he turns into a Christmas in July Santa. Oh its happening!!! We love themed parties to sing for.

Springtime music 2017

Spring is here.  We are sharing new music and a children’s book.

“Wisdom, the elephant used by God” and the song “I Will Follow”

Grand daughter Aliyah is helping at story time and singing along. Wisdom is about a brave little elephant with big faith to follow God. She and her parents travel from south Africa to north Africa. God protects them through many dangers and they find a man named Noah building an ark. This is a fun adventure animal parable to add to your home library or read in Sunday school class readings.

We recorded the song and audiobook at Blue Chair Recording Studio in Austin, Arkansas during Spring break 2017. Always fun creating new music. Thank you to our engineer Darian Stribling and musician Tim Crouch.

We sang at Scott, Arkansas. The annual dinner is to celebrate all that our Arkansas farmers do to feed America. Thank you Anne Turner. Always a great event.

We sang at a Hawaiian luau at Andover Opry.

We sang at Geyer Springs First Baptist Church Adult Fellowship March luncheon and received a standing ovation. Thank you Max

We recorded four new songs this year: “I Will Follow” and “Joshua” for the Animals Used by God series. “Leap of Faith” a lullaby that Rod and I composed together. and “Nothing Better Than You” a love song written by Rod Ragsdale, that everyone will love. We are in process and hopefully will finish by May. An exciting Spring has begun. Life is fun.

Happy Spring all.

Golfing with Santa – a child’s adventure

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to play your favorite sport with Santa at the North Pole? Well Andrew got to do just that! See, Andrew loves golf. It just so happened that it was snowing pretty hard one Christmas Eve when suddenly who should appear? You guessed it. Andrew couldn’t believe his eyes, and that was only the beginning.

The Adventures of Andrew on the Golf Course series is written by Rod Ragsdale and illustrated by Carol Dabney.

Rod on the golf course, just before making a snowman. Here is where the wheels began turning for his fourth book – Golfing with Santa.

The books starts with Andrew helping his dad shovel snow around the golf course country club. awe…work. Nothing like it to get a person day dreaming about what he or she would rather be doing.

I mean really what if..

Rod Ragsdale and Carol Dabney tour libraries and schools singing and sharing their stories. Children love putting the golf ball inside the library. Rod demonstrates and the kids love it!

next program open to the public. free family fun at the Clinton Children’s library on 10th street in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sing some Christmas carols and hear a few of Rod and Carol’s Christmas stories. Maybe golf a bit. You may even purchase an autographed book for your child. Monday December 19 beginning at 11am.

Happy Thanksgiving

The weather is changing, the leaves are falling and it has that holiday feeling in the air. It just all happens so fast. In October Halloween was fun and our school has Miss Pickle Witch who serves pickles with stories in the library. I am reading my  Happy Pumpkin Patch at various schools and selling my little books at fall festivals.

Pumpkins are everywhere and they are beautiful.

In November Mr. Rod comes to share stories for Veteran’s Day at our school and we also went to Whole Food Kid’s Club this year and a few others schools. He talks about his submarine while he served in the navy. We sing patriotic songs and wave flags. We love singing patriotic songs. We are blessed to be American.

That means that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. My Happy Pumpkin, Patch is still being read to welcome in this wonderful holiday. It is about how to plant pumpkins and take care of them, how to make a jack-o-lantern and make healthy treats.

The book  is about having faith, and patience. It’s about a pilgrim named Jack, and how he protects his one pumpkin so when it has grown big he can share the many seeds with all his nieghbors so years to come all others will be able to have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day.

How the pilgrims and Indians celebrated harvest time and Thanksgiving. This book for very young children is good for reading as a family before eating your Thanksgiving meal. It’s in poetic form the whole family will enjoy. I illustrated with very simple watercolor artwork. Get the book, bring it out and read it every year from Halloween to Thanksgiving. Thank you for your support.

Yes, I love reading my stories at schools, classrooms or assemblies. I read at festivals and libraries and churches and would love to come to your program. Let me know.

Be the pumpkin.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Make a Jack-O-Lantern smile, share and eat the seeds and pumpkin pie, Be thankful and be a blessing. -Carol

Veteran’s Day Programs – music and story

America. The flag. Soldiers. We are thankful to all our service men and women who have served this great nation that is our home. We salute the military who are serving now at home and across the sea. This week Rod Ragsdale and myself are singing at several Veteran’s Day programs for schools. We were asked to do more programs, but unfortunately, did not have time for all.

God and country is our musical passion. We also sing at nursing homes and always thank the good folks of that generation for all they have done. Rod’s father was shot during the WWII and his brother was injured in the service of our country as well. Rod served in the navy on a submarine for 6 years, where he learned to play the guitar and harmonica during the quieter moments. My father was in the navy in WWII and was on an air craft carrier. My sister is retired recently, but was a nurse and served as a Lt Col. in the Air Force over in Iraq, Turkey and Germany. and my daughter is a captain in the army serving now.

This year I was honored to sing the national anthem for the annual Alzheimer’s Walk in Little Rock.

This week every year we get to share some things about veteran’s and our personal stories and we sing patriotic songs. Here are some pictures of some of our programs honoring American soldiers. Plus some photos of my books: a children’s book called “Military Mommy” and my father’s biography called, “Dance Me Home.” These books are available on

For children to read: fun and poetic

For adults to read: a military love story. Inspiring.

God Bless America
