Fall Festivals October 2016

Fall festivals are my favorite time of year. The weather is cooling down, the leaves are turning colors, the pumpkins give me a happy feeling. Fall begins the holiday seasons of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. For the next three months I get to read my holiday books at schools and Rod and I are practicing our Christmas songs

In Octobter we kicked off the Fall Festivals at Scott’s Plantation Cotton Festival. That is where Rod and I met three years ago. He was playing music and I was selling my books. We have enjoyed getting to know each other, singing music everywhere together, and now writing children’s books together.

The Happy Pumpkin, Patch by Carol Dabbney. Great to read to young children every fall.

Rod spent 40 years developing and working on golf courses. His son is a golf pro at Disney world. Rod has been showing me how to play golf the last year as well. I illustrate his adventure books. Great for young children 10 and under. Rod has four books in his series now, including a Christmas special new this year 2016… The Adventures of Andrew on the Golf Course – book four – Golfing with Santa.

Singing at Nursing Homes, a great generation part 2, Jan-April 2016

Singing at nursing homes and for assisted living residents is so rewarding. They seem to appreciate the music we share from the oldies, country, patriotic, gospel, soft rock, Disney, Hawaiian, and folk. We take pictures of where we have been but do not take pictures of the their faces, however it is their faces that touch my heart when we sing a song and I see them go from sitting half asleep in their wheel chairs to their eyes lighting up and begin to clap and sing along. There is something wonderful in those faces when they start to remember through a song. It makes me wonder what kind of life did they have? What war, what work, what love, what families they had? My father had Alzheimer’s and forgot so much, but when I sang a song he remembered he could sing every word. Those songs would lite up in his eyes and he would say, “You made my day” so I found music reaches a part of our heart, music goes to the soul like nothing else can. It’s amazing and God has blessed me with the passion of music. I teach music to children at school during the mornings and the afternoons I sing at nursing homes. It is my gift, so I sing.

We sing and tell stories for classrooms, festivals and nursing homes. These are some of the nursing homes we enjoyed entertaining in 2015. It’s wonderful to see the folk’s eyes light up when they hear a song that brings back fond memories.

Santa’s North Pole at turtle Creek Mall in Jonesboro. This little cutie is a #1 Carol Dabney fan for sure. She comes to so many of my events and has all my books, and she is not even two yet… They live in the Northeast area where I came from but travel to the Good Earth Pooches and Pumpkins in central Arkansas every fall and other places I announce. I just love her!

I was honored to be the Special guest speaker at the First Baptist Women’s Cup of Christmas Joy near Scott. Thank you ladies for this opportunity. However I did miss my two side kicks: Rod and Cindy. This was a solo act. I spoke about being a writer and  about my first illustration which was my Christmas book and sang a few songs. Introduced my animal parable series, which I think is so sweet and hope folks will begun to enjoy as much as they do the Christmas book

We played in Nashville Grill and then it was time to pack it up and go have Christmas by the fireplace with the grandkids. Egg nog time and watching Its a Wonderful Life (my favorite) in our PJs. Merry Christmas and God bless us everyone… Young and old.

It Doesn’t have to snow for all of us to know

Christmas in your heart can last the whole year round. It doesn’t have to wait till the frost is on the ground.

from Manhattan’s frosty snow to Hawaii’s ocean mist, there’s one things I know you don’t need… mistletoe to kiss…

don’t need a Christmas tree for all of us to see

Christmas is like home, with love so strong

no matter where you roam to last your whole life long.

It’s not the tinsel not the toys

not just for little girls and boys

not just for the young you see but for anyone who can BELIEVE.

Pinnacle Mountain March 042

Believe!  watercolor art by Carol Dabney from the book Pablo, The Donkey Used By God, a bible series for children created by attorney Everett O. Martindale and co-authored by Dabney, called the Animals Used By God.

Pablo is bullied by the other animals. He is not as fast as the horses, can not produce eggs like the chickens, milk like the cows, or wool like the sheep. He is simply small and humble.  Yet, it is the small and humble donkey that is chosen to carry a young pregnant girl named Mary into Bethlehem, and some years later it is a small and humble set of donkeys chosen to carry Mary’s son, Jesus into Jerusalem.
