Happy Thanksgiving

The weather is changing, the leaves are falling and it has that holiday feeling in the air. It just all happens so fast. In October Halloween was fun and our school has Miss Pickle Witch who serves pickles with stories in the library. I am reading my  Happy Pumpkin Patch at various schools and selling my little books at fall festivals.

Pumpkins are everywhere and they are beautiful.

In November Mr. Rod comes to share stories for Veteran’s Day at our school and we also went to Whole Food Kid’s Club this year and a few others schools. He talks about his submarine while he served in the navy. We sing patriotic songs and wave flags. We love singing patriotic songs. We are blessed to be American.

That means that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. My Happy Pumpkin, Patch is still being read to welcome in this wonderful holiday. It is about how to plant pumpkins and take care of them, how to make a jack-o-lantern and make healthy treats.

The book  is about having faith, and patience. It’s about a pilgrim named Jack, and how he protects his one pumpkin so when it has grown big he can share the many seeds with all his nieghbors so years to come all others will be able to have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day.

How the pilgrims and Indians celebrated harvest time and Thanksgiving. This book for very young children is good for reading as a family before eating your Thanksgiving meal. It’s in poetic form the whole family will enjoy. I illustrated with very simple watercolor artwork. Get the book, bring it out and read it every year from Halloween to Thanksgiving. Thank you for your support.

Yes, I love reading my stories at schools, classrooms or assemblies. I read at festivals and libraries and churches and would love to come to your program. Let me know.

Be the pumpkin.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Make a Jack-O-Lantern smile, share and eat the seeds and pumpkin pie, Be thankful and be a blessing. -Carol

Fall Festivals October 2016

Fall festivals are my favorite time of year. The weather is cooling down, the leaves are turning colors, the pumpkins give me a happy feeling. Fall begins the holiday seasons of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. For the next three months I get to read my holiday books at schools and Rod and I are practicing our Christmas songs

In Octobter we kicked off the Fall Festivals at Scott’s Plantation Cotton Festival. That is where Rod and I met three years ago. He was playing music and I was selling my books. We have enjoyed getting to know each other, singing music everywhere together, and now writing children’s books together.

Great for young children 10 and under. Rod has four books in his series now, including a Christmas special new this year 2016… The Adventures of Andrew on the Golf Course – book four – Golfing with Santa.

Singing at Nursing Homes, a great generation part 2, Jan-April 2016

Singing at nursing homes and for assisted living residents is so rewarding. They seem to appreciate the music we share from the oldies, country, patriotic, gospel, soft rock, Disney, Hawaiian, and folk. We take pictures of where we have been but do not take pictures of the their faces, however it is their faces that touch my heart when we sing a song and I see them go from sitting half asleep in their wheel chairs to their eyes lighting up and begin to clap and sing along. There is something wonderful in those faces when they start to remember through a song. It makes me wonder what kind of life did they have? What war, what work, what love, what families they had? My father had Alzheimer’s and forgot so much, but when I sang a song he remembered he could sing every word. Those songs would lite up in his eyes and he would say, “You made my day” so I found music reaches a part of our heart, music goes to the soul like nothing else can. It’s amazing and God has blessed me with the passion of music. I teach music to children at school during the mornings and the afternoons I sing at nursing homes. It is my gift, so I sing.

She comes to so many of my events and has all my books, and she is not even two yet… They live in the Northeast area where I came from but travel to the Good Earth Pooches and Pumpkins in central Arkansas every fall and other places I announce. I just love her!

I was honored to be the Special guest speaker at the First Baptist Women’s Cup of Christmas Joy near Scott. Thank you ladies for this opportunity. However I did miss my two side kicks: Rod and Cindy. This was a solo act. I spoke about being a writer and  about my first illustration which was my Christmas book and sang a few songs. Introduced my animal parable series, which I think is so sweet and hope folks will begun to enjoy as much as they do the Christmas book

It Doesn’t have to snow for all of us to know

Christmas in your heart can last the whole year round. It doesn’t have to wait till the frost is on the ground.

from Manhattan’s frosty snow to Hawaii’s ocean mist, there’s one things I know you don’t need… mistletoe to kiss…

don’t need a Christmas tree for all of us to see

Christmas is like home, with love so strong

no matter where you roam to last your whole life long.

It’s not the tinsel not the toys

not just for little girls and boys

not just for the young you see but for anyone who can BELIEVE.

Carol Dabney
